Welcome to our program. Today we are talking about the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. Located deep inside a mountain on a remote island in the Arctic Ocean, it is often called the 'Doomsday Vault'. The Mystery of the Mary Celeste
In December 1872, a British ship called the Dei Gratia was sailing through the Atlantic Ocean when the crew spotted another vessel. It was the Mary Celeste, a ship that had left New York City a month earlier. As the Dei Gratia moved closer, the sailors realized something was wrong. The Mary Celeste was moving strangely, and there was no one on deck.

A small group of sailors from the Dei Gratia boarded the mysterious ship. They found that the Mary Celeste was in good condition. There was plenty of food and water for six months, and the crew's personal belongings were still in their cabins. However, the captain, his wife, their young daughter, and the seven crew members were gone. The only lifeboat was missing, and the ship's logbook—the record of the journey—showed that the last entry had been made ten days before.

Over the years, many theories have been suggested to explain what happened. Some people thought that pirates had attacked the ship, but no gold or valuable cargo was taken. Others believed that a sea monster or a giant octopus had pulled the people into the ocean. However, there was no sign of a struggle. A more scientific theory suggests that the ship was carrying 1,700 barrels of alcohol, and some of them might have leaked. The captain, fearing an explosion, might have ordered everyone into the lifeboat to wait until the air was safe, but the rope broke, and they were lost at sea.

To this day, the fate of the people on the Mary Celeste remains one of the greatest maritime mysteries in history. No one from the ship was ever seen again.
