Moscow State University
Moscow State University, usually called MSU, is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Russia. It was founded in 1755 on the initiative of Mikhail Lomonosov, a scientist and scholar who believed that education should be available to talented people from different backgrounds. Today, MSU includes many faculties, from mathematics and physics to history, languages and journalism. Its main building on Sparrow Hills has become one of Moscow’s best-known landmarks. However, the university is more than an impressive building. It is a large research centre where students work with experienced scientists and take part in international projects. Many students live on campus, use modern laboratories and attend lectures given by researchers from different countries. The university also organises public lectures, scientific competitions and cultural events.
